Having helped build the compost bays in 2012 and added to their content in the intervening period, it was perhaps inevitable that we would eventually be asked to empty at least one.
Judith and Mary had found themselves a supposedly easier task removing docks and other weeds from an adjacent bed.
And then it was eleven o'clock and time for our annual visit to the Englefield Stores (or more precisely to the tearoom) for coffee.
Back to shifting compost which was to be spread over a nearby bed.
And then it was lunchtime.
The Garden .....
Lunch over and with the task nearing completion Terry decides to lead by example and be the first to return to work .....
..... but seems disappointed to discover its an example others are not keen to follow as the second barrow remains stubbornly empty.
Finished!
The plot now benefiting from several inches of compost will be covered with 'MyPex' membrane to suppress the weeds before being planted with beans, both runner and French climbing.
As we prepare to depart another species of crow moves in to inspect our work, no doubt hopeful of finding some tasty morsel.
A weary volunteer departs. Our thanks to everyone who joined us.
