For the last TUESDAY in August, CROW joined the volunteers from the Pang Valley Countryside Project to help Sarah the WBC Countryside Ranger, clear the recently cut meadow at Hosehill.
It was not the gloriously sunny weather normally associated with haymaking but without the distraction of either cider or Rosie, the task was completed by lunchtime before the arrival of the worst of the showers.
Hay' is possibly a slight exaggeration as the cut vegetation was not judged to be of sufficient quality to be used as animal feed, instead it was stacked at the meadow's edge to compost and no doubt provide shelter for the grass snakes and slowworms amongst others, that inhabit the site.
